Ease of use, new application fields and solutions for Industrie 4.0 are some of the current trends in image processing. These and other topics are the focus of Vision 2014.
“The European industrial image-processing sector is in excellent shape”, reports Donato Montanari, member of the executive committee of VDMA Industrial Machine Vision. According to the industrial association, turnover in the trade rose by almost 10 % more than expected in 2013. VDMA estimates further growth of around 12 % for 2014.
Among other things, there’s a huge demand for compact systems such as vision sensors. With these systems, a trend is becoming established that also applies to the entire image-processing industry: solutions are becoming easier to implement. “The more complex the technology, the easier it is to use”, reckons Enis Ersü, CEO of Isra Vision.
This is enabling new application fields to be exploited. Last year, non-industrial image-processing applications experienced its largest ever growth leap of 19 %. The main boost stems from intelligent traffic systems and medical technology. According to VDMA, the demand for non-industrial applications will continue to grow – even faster than in the manufacturing sector.
However, even in this area, there are still huge potentials for image processing, such as with Industrie 4.0. The major use of image-processing technologies in tomorrow’s manufacturing systems pursuing the idea of Industrie 4.0 would be unavoidable, reckons Ronald Müller, head of product marketing at Framos. That’s because no other sensors offer such high levels of flexibility and autonomy from other machines and complete production lines.
